Looking for that quick fix to make Facebook marketing work for your business? The truth is, any expert marketer will tell you that social media
marketing in general is not quick. In fact, most experienced marketers will tell you that it often takes close to 90 days to see consistent growth and progress across your pages. Not only does it take a bit of time, but it also takes intentionality and consistency. Even more than that, it starts before you even create your Facebook page, it starts with your website and a solid marketing plan.

Consider This…

Business Plan – A good business plan can help you map out some very important aspects of your business, and will help you stay on track with theDigital social media tree types of messages you are sending out about your company. It helps you determine your overall goals and mission for your company, and how you plan to stay relevant amongst the competition. Forbes.com has some great tips on “10 Elements of a Sound Business Plan”.

Marketing Plan – Marketing Plans are crucial for creating a solid “road map” for all of your marketing efforts. Your digital marketing efforts are most often a large portion of your marketing plan, and is where your focus on creating an action plan for your social media efforts will be. It’s also a great place to determine your ideal client and keep you focusing on what is important to your business, and your potential clients.

Your Website – Having a good website that is mobile-friendly and easily refers visitors to your social media pages is crucial to making the most out of your Facebook marketing. Ideally, various posts on Facebook will point back to your website allowing potential customers to find more information relating to your posts and your company in general. Email Marketing – We always recommend that you have your email marketing programs ready to go when starting your social media marketing efforts. Finding multiple ways to build your email list should be a prominent part of your marketing plans both on your website and on your social media pages. After all, social media marketing is all about connecting with potential clients and eventually finding ways to connect with them outside of social media providing a more direct and targeted message. We recommend MailChimp as a great resource for getting your email marketing started for FREE!

Tips for Getting Your Page off to a Great Start

  • We always recommend having a handful of updates on your page before you start adding people to it. This way, your new fans have a reason to visit your page and an idea of the types of content you will be sharing.
  • Take advantage of utilizing all of the sections available when creating your page. Sections like the Short Description and Long Description are great places to share the mission of your company and what you have to offer. When filling in these sections, it is best to know the keywords that you want to utilize for your business. This way, you can use these words in the descriptions which allows people searching to more easily connect with your page.
  • The About section is a great place to highlight the top reasons that your company is different from others and the services you provide. If you provide a huge list of services, keep the most popular services in there with a link to the additional services that you provide.

Tips for your Facebook Marketing Plan

Setting Goals Set clear goals for your marketing plan. For example, you can set a goal to have at least 500 likes within the first 90 days of starting your page. This is a very obtainable goal, and a great start for growing your page. (This goal is without utilizing Facebook Ads which when used properly can help grow your page much faster.)socialmediathumb

Engagement Schedule a few minutes each day, usually only about 5-10 minutes at the most, to go through and like and comment back to any posts that have been made on your page on the same day that they are made. This will help earn the trust of your fans and help them get to know who you are. Remember, successful pages on Facebook are successful because they utilize storytelling to connect with people. Potential customers want to get to know who they are considering working with before they make a decision to begin working with you.

Showcase Your Work Facebook is the perfect place to showcase some of your work and help establish your level of expertise. Not only should you showcase your work and your skills, but also your personality. It’s another opportunity for the potential customer to get to know you and the type of business person you are and how your company works.

Email Opt-In There are many different ways that you can utilize Facebook to help grow your email list. One great way, especially at the beginnings of your page, is to offer giveaways for a free consultation, e-book, report or gift card. You can also offer a free webinar or a contest to help build your list. Facebook apps make it easy to set up an email opt-in tab right on your page and even to host contests. We love programs like Pagemodo who make all of these tasks really easy at an affordable price.

Keep in mind the last thing you want to do is load your page up with sales messages. There should be a balance that includes posts with pictures, text, videos and links. Within these posts, only about 10% – 20% should be geared towards the sales and promotions of your products/services.

K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple Silly)

Social Media doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact, we highly recommend utilizing tools to make it as easy as possible to stay consistent. Using programs like Pagemodo to pre-schedule your posts can also help you find content for your pages, create custom branded images and even generate trackable links to help you determine where clicks are coming from and where they are going. The best part is, these tools don’t need to cost a ton of money to be successful. You just need to use them!

There is no need to re-invent the wheel. Chances are, there are at least a dozen pages out there that are very similar to yours. Take a look at those pages and find out what the competition is doing. Check out the pages that have the most fans and then take a look at the posts that have the most likes, shares and interaction. Find out what kind of posts they are and they type of message they are sharing. Also look for the posts that don’t get interaction so you know what not to do. Don’t forget to look at the Cover Photo to get ideas on what stands out to you as a win, and what is a clear fail. Take notes and refer back to them when planning out your page. Tip: Don’t use Facebook’s search to find your competition. Search for them on Google instead, as you will be able to sort through a lot more pages and find more on Google than you can through Facebook in much less time.
